Gift Cards Go Green Product
Minneapolis — Meyers is negotiating with a big box retailer to test its patented Greencard, an environmentally friendly alternative to the PVC cards commonly used for gift and loyalty cards.
Greencards are made with recyclable paper that is coated to emulate the look and feel of plastic. The cards are intended for one-time or limited-use applications. The durable, two-ply construction allows for the use of tear strips in place of scratch-off strips used on plastic cards with concealed coding.
“There’s not really any magic in the paper itself. What’s unique is our manufacturing process and our ability to manage variable data,” says Gregg Temple, president of Meyers’ Label and Card Group. Greencards have a glossy finish and can accommodate holographic images, hot stamping, barcodes, pin encoding, RFID technology and magnetic strips.
